Chippa United have announced the return of Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, with the Super Eagles shot-stopper rejoining the South African club ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. The 30-year-old, who left the club by mutual consent in February, has signed a new deal to begin his second stint with the Gqeberha-based side.
The goalkeeper's return comes after a seven-month period on the sidelines, during which he remained without a club following his departure from Chippa United. Nwabali initially joined the club in July 2022 from Enugu Rangers and made 50 appearances across all competitions during his first spell. He played a crucial role in helping the team avoid relegation during the 2023-24 season and was named the club's Player of the Season for his performances.
Nwabali first rose to prominence during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where he played a pivotal role in Nigeria's run to the final. His performances for the Super Eagles attracted interest from clubs across Europe and South Africa, but he remained with Chippa United until his departure earlier this year.
Chippa United's statement on Saturday confirmed that Nwabali had signed a contract and will be available for selection immediately. The club is currently preparing for the new season, and his arrival provides a significant boost to their goalkeeping department. Nwabali is expected to compete for the number one spot as the team aims to improve on their 13th-place finish in the previous Betway Premiership season.
