Akwa Ibom State Council Meeting Approves Projects Boosts Roads Power Tourism Sports and Security

Uyo, Akwa Ibom – The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council meet on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, for Government House, Uyo. Governor Pastor Umo Eno, PhD preside, with Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, SSG, Head of Civil Service, Commissioners, and Special Advisers in attendance.

For him opening speech, Governor Eno welcome everybody and yan say teamwork dey crucial, urging members to use each other strength to drive ARISE Agenda and push State development.

Major Council Decisions

• 357 Projects Approved: Following report from Projects Management Office, Council approve 357 projects across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. Qualified youths and companies wey apply through State procurement portal fit take advantage.
• Ibom International Hospital: Council ratify Project Agreement, Award of Contract, and handover site to contractors for proposed 350-bed first-class hospital.
• Road Projects: 771km of road projects dey across 31 LGAs. Works and Budget Commissioners go align needs from Federal Constituency Town Hall meetings with 2026 Peoples Budget to ensure coverage.
• Power Summit: Council approve hosting of Power Summit to fast-track reliable and affordable electricity delivery.
• Tourism Development: Governor inaugurate Inter-Ministerial Delivery Committee to drive Tourism Summit. Members include Commissioners for Tourism, Information, Local Government, Attorney General, ALGON Chairman, AKICORP MD, and Tourism Adviser.
• Illegal Mining Committee: To curb illegal mining, Council inaugurate State Committee led by Environment Commissioner with Finance, Transport, Internal Security, Police, ALGON, and Coastal LGA Chairmen as members.
• Akwa Ibom Sports Festival: Equipment for 30 sports approved. Festival start September 8, 2025, with 18 competitions to promote youth talent under ARISE Agenda.
• Oron Maritime Terminal: Council direct acceleration of works for jetties, ferries, and infrastructure to boost blue economy corridor.
• CNG City Buses: Factory inspection report from Turkey approved increase of fleet from 20 to 50 buses for full 31 LGA coverage.
• INEC Continuous Voter Registration: Council urge citizens to participate in CVR exercise to strengthen civic engagement.
• Security Boost: Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede visit state, commend Akwa Ibom as one of safest States and thank government for cooperation with security agencies.
