Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo Celebrates Tribunal Victory with Royal Blessings and Supporters

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja upheld the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo, dismissing the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo. The three-member panel, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, found no merit in the allegations of electoral irregularities, affirming that the September 21, 2024, election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act.

Governor Okpebholo celebrated the tribunal's decision with a triumphant return to Benin City, where he and Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa were greeted by jubilant supporters. The celebration included a visit to the Palace of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Ewuare II, who offered prayers and blessings for the governor's continued leadership.

Expressing gratitude, Governor Okpebholo dedicated the victory to the people of Edo State and extended an olive branch to his political opponents, urging unity and collaboration for the state's progress. Despite the tribunal's ruling, Asue Ighodalo has indicated plans to appeal the decision, seeking further judicial review of the election outcome.
