Popular media personality and former Special Assistant on Social Reorientation to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Aniekeme Finbarr, has finally addressed the reasons behind his unexpected resignation. His departure, made public through a brief and courteous resignation letter dated November 21, 2024, took many by surprise when it surfaced on his social media platforms. At the time, the letter gave no clear explanation for his decision to step down.

However, during a live appearance on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Comfort 95.1 FM in Uyo—where broadcaster Mighty George is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest radio talk show marathon—Finbarr shed light on his decision.

“You know when you deserve better in a space. When you feel like you’ve given everything and there are other opportunities,” he said, implying that his resignation was driven by personal conviction and a desire for professional advancement.

When asked to contrast life in and outside government, Finbarr didn’t mince words: “Things are much better now,” he stated candidly.

Though currently outside of public office, Finbarr made it clear that he hasn't ruled out a return. What would influence his decision most, he said, is not money but meaningful engagement and access to leadership.

“Whenever I have an opportunity, I will examine it based on the value I will add. What I will examine the most is the access to my employer. It can be frustrating if you are in a place and they forget you exist,” he emphasized.

He was also quick to note that financial incentives would not dictate his return to government work. “The motivation will not be the pay but value. Money follows value,” he added.

Now the CEO of Finbarr Consults Ltd., he is thriving in his new path as a Peak Performance Strategist, Professional Speaker, and Brand Consultant. Using the platform of the marathon radio show, Finbarr took time to reflect on the impact of radio, mentorship, and the roots of his career.

“Everything started with passion. Passion to be heard, to inspire… and it all started with my father’s radio,” he recalled.

Looking back at his childhood, where access to information was limited, Finbarr credited radio as a reliable companion. “Radio was always there. Radio was consistent,” he noted.

He also praised Mighty George’s record-breaking attempt: “We are proud that you are from Akwa Ibom, from Nigeria. This is like a university with a lot of things to learn.”
